Website HelpHopefully you will be able to find your way around our website to find the information you are interested in. If you having trouble though then this is the place to come. The sections below will hopefully help in finding your way around and how to listen to the recordings of sermons, watch video clips and download files. Finding Your Way AroundThere are two main ways of find infromation on our website. The first is by using the menu across the top to view articles and the second is by using the calendar on the right to view events. Articles Articles are information pages about the church and the areas that we are involved with. We've tried to catagorise them as best as possible. As well as information to read you will also be able to download any files, view video clips or listen to audio recordings. Events Events are tied to the calendar and include servcies, meetings and anything else that has a date attached to it. Events are displayed in the same way as articles and they are also categorised into services, community events and youth events. As well as information for a particular events you will also be able to download any files, view video clips or listen to audio recordings. Any sermon that has been recorded can be located by the date that it was presented. In the case of a series, all of the recordings will be available regardless of which of the multiple dates for that event you select. Any event that has happened in the past that has information associated with it is kept available so you can go back to it at a later date. Featured Events When you select a month or a category to view, any featured events are highlighted. Where possible, all Sunday Celebrations that have a recording of the sermon associated with them are featured events to make it easier to find the recording you are insterested in listening to. Listening To Talks OnlineWhere possible we try to record the talks from Sunday mornings and other events held at OBC. These are then uploaded onto the website as MP3 files. An MP3 file is a compressed audio format, designed to be more easily downloaded to a computer. The recordings are stored in the calendar, based on the event and date that they were recorded. Use the calendar on the right hand side to select the date and the event that you are interested in. If there is just one event it, the information will be displayed straight away. If there are multiple events for that date then you will need to select the date that you are interested in. If there is a recording available for the selected event then it will be shown on the page. You will then be able to listen to the talk on-line (streaming) or download it to listen to off-line (on an portable music player for example). Streaming (listening on-line) If you just want to listen to the talks you can stream the file by using the media player on the webpage. You can play, pause, stop, fast-forward, rewind and adjust the volume. Downloading (Listening off-line) When you download a file, you save it to your computer, and the file is copied to your machine. During this time it is not possible to listen to it. Due to the length of some talks, if you are downloading them without a broadband internet connection, downloading can take quite some time. The advantage is that you then have the file to play again and again if required. To download a file, use the right mouse button to click on the download button and select something that says "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As...". You then have the freedom to use the MP3 file on your portable music player (iPod, mobile phone, etc). Passing the Files Around Please be aware that the sound files on this website are protected by copyright. Please do not distribute them without permission of the. If you wish to draw someone's attention to a particular talk, please simply give them the website address of that talk (from the top of your browser). Recording Quality Please also be aware that while every effort has been taken to ensure that the quality of the recordings is of the highest standard this is by no means gauranteed. Sometimes there may be difficulties in the recording process that results in low sound quality and incomplete recordings. In order to make it easier to listen to the talks, the quality of the MP3 has been set to a level that makes the talks clear, but reduces the size of the files. This means that the talks will play more easily for those without a broadband internet connection. MembersThe website contains a secure area which is only accessible by means of a username and password. This is intended to be used by members and friends of the church to access resources such as ministry team information, small group information and minutes and information about church meetings. There is also a section for news and notices as well as an address book so that you can contact individuals and minsitry teams within the church. In order to access this secure area you will first need to register by filling in a simple form with your name, a username and a password. Don't worry we will never be able to see your password. Your name will be checked against the current membership list at which point your access to the website will be approved and you will get an email to confirm this. Don't worry if you are not a member of the church. If you are a regular attender please let someone on the leadership team know and we'll make sure that you can fully access the website. When filling out the registration form it would be really helpful if you give us you full name (i.e. first name and surname) as this makes it easier to work out who's who. To fill out the registration form go to the members menu and follow the links or click here. |
