Holiday Club 2011

holiday club 2011

What a week of fun! 15 children aged from 5 to 11 were welcomed along to Oakham Baptist Church for the holiday club for 4 days this October half term - and they certainly made the most of it.

We used a teaching programme from Scripture Union called On Your Marks. Based on the general theme of being an athlete, we covered the following relative topics: Making the Team, Inspiring the Team, Challenging the Team and Sticking to the Team. The daily programme included an educational DVD, discussion groups, activities, action songs and a creative prayer time, as well as some friendly competitions and challenges of course, but the athletes' favourite slot must have been Andy's silly exercise routines!

Silly was a key word during the 4 days, with leaders and children presenting some very dubious fashion accessories from their wardrobes in order to fit in with their team colour themes, as England, Ireland and Scotland came together. John Donald showed particular bravery in this area - but only the photos will do him justice! The wonderful children showed great enthusiasm in the way they worked with each other as a team and in the way they aimed to learn more about Jesus together. They also put the leaders through their paces as expected! We all agreed it was a fantastic week and we're already looking forward to next year!

If you'd like more information on this club, or other youth and children's work that goes on at OBC and The Shed, please contact our Youth Worker.

Here's what some of the leaders thought...

"I had a great time. Very pleasant young children, extremely well organised. Looking forward to the next one!"

"Really enjoyed being part of the holiday club. Great mix of fun activities, lots of laughter and wonderul kids - all of us learning together about God."

"A huge thank you to the children who entertained and educated the leaders. We all loved it and Jesus did too."
